Who we are
Operators who have run the playbook, not consultants who have studied it.
Wilde Mason is a performance and change firm for owner-operated businesses. We run the operating playbook private equity firms use to make businesses worth more — for owners who would rather keep that value than sell it to whoever would capture it instead.
We have sat in the seats. We have taken control of businesses on the day ownership changed, restructured organisations that had outgrown their shape, rebuilt pricing and cost bases, installed management layers, and finished what other people started. We know what the work looks like from the inside because we have done it — and we know where it goes wrong, because we have been called in after it did.
We do our best work when the ground is moving. A partner exits. An acquisition closes. A generation hands over. A cost base has to come down. A sale is eighteen months out and the business is not ready. These are the moments that decide what a business becomes, and they are the moments we are built for.
How the work is organised
One playbook. Two ways in.
Everything we do runs on the same playbook — the sequence private equity applies to every business it owns. You enter it one of two ways. If you know the moment you are in — a change of principal, a restructuring, a sale ahead — start with the situation, and the sequence is already defined. If you know something is wrong but not what, start with the diagnostic, and the services follow from what it finds.
How we engage
Three ways to work together.
Every engagement begins with a diagnostic conversation — 60 minutes, no cost, no obligation. In that conversation we will tell you honestly whether we can help, how, and what the improvement would be worth.
Diagnostic
Two to four weeks, fixed fee, one output: the honest picture. Where the business is leaking performance, what it is actually worth, and a prioritised agenda specific enough to execute without us. Most engagements start here. Some end here — and that is fine.
Embedded
We join the work. A senior operator inside the business — running the change programme, preparing the decisions, executing alongside your team through a defined term. Availability across the month, not appointed days. Output: the result, not a recommendation.
Retained
For owners who want the outside view permanently in the room. A monthly cadence of senior attention: the operating review, the decisions worth pressure-testing, and access when something moves. Structured so it earns its fee — or ends.
What we believe
Four convictions that shape the work.
Sequence beats brilliance. Most change fails on order, not on ideas — organisations asked to change before control is secured, costs cut before the business is defined. We hold the order.
We are scoped for your reality. Big-firm playbooks assume an implementation army you do not have. We design for businesses where the CEO is still in the details and capacity is finite.
We have done this. Run businesses, made payroll, taken control on day one, and sat in the rooms where people learned their role was ending — and it was handled properly. We respect the weight of these decisions because we have carried them.
Honesty is the product. If the constraint is you, we say so — respectfully, with a path forward. If an initiative will not work, we say it before you spend the money. The work is only worth doing on true information.
